The Lamington:
“Hi Grant,
Just wanted to let you know that we fired up the Lamington last night, and! !it was amazing! I was truly taken with how great it sounded. We ran it through my 4 X 12 with Celestion vintage 30’s and it was really great. The tone is excellent and I was loving how responsive to touch it was. It seemed nice and clean with gentle playing, and then you dig in a bit and it rips your head off! Seems at first play like it has great cleans (with the right amount of chime) and great bluesy overdrive. I think you are really onto something with the lamington, which of course you knew! Thanks again for all your help with this – it’s truly one of the best amps I think I’ve played.
Kind regards, Samuel”
The Lamington:
I just finished building the 18W valve Amp. I powered it up last week and it’s the best sounding Amp I’ve ever had, the most incredible clear tones and a great distortion with the gain up. Never done anything like it before and I lived to tell the tale, no smoke or explosions!
The Lamington Junior:
“I’ve been wanting to attend a Lamington Build course for some time… then the Lamington Jnr came along removing much of the high voltage angst I suffer, being 12v AC based, but being time poor I thought I’d put it off until the end of the year. So I bought it. and now I’ve been playing it and………… WOW….. what a sound! 2w of valve awesomeness with B90’s, Broadcasters, and Humbuckers – even cranked into “valve heaven” Madam Butterfly hardly reacts. It puts out a marvellous creamy clean at 12:00; down low it’s as sweet as. Driving a Greenback, Etone 10″, Weber 50w ALNICO, and 65w Creamback…. I’ve done the rounds already and just love it.”
The Lamington Junior:
“Hi Grant, I finally got it working (1k8 was in the wrong spot), all good. Thanks for your help, I will play with this one for a while and then i will try the Lamington 15w. Since I have no previous electronic experience I found the whole kit very easy to follow as a beginner. Thanks again!”
The Lamington Lite:
“Thanks Grant for a very enjoyable weekend building the Lamington Lite. The amp itself is remarkably great sounding and easily rates with the current batch of Boutique point to point amps as well as the vintage mainstays. Hooked it up to a 2 x 12 Mesa black shadow cabinet and it instantly has become my favourite clean amp. As I said at the course it represents an absolute bargain when you consider you walk out with a point to point wired amp. All the best for the future and thank you once again.”
The Lamington:
“The Lamington build went to rehearsal with me last night.
Case is built. Just need a front panel and a strap handle.
Working nicely. (better than nice.) No click on switching and enough “boost” for solo’s. Overall tone is very pleasing. Bottom end to burn.
Very little, almost no hum even at high volume.
More than enough overdrive for my taste. Particularly once the output stage is working hard.
No audible sign of oscillation problems. (couldn’t spot any in scope testing on the bench either.)
Output and power trannies run cool after 4 hours of useage.
Our Bass player is a Stevie Ray Vaughan fan and plays a mean guitar too.
He loves the amp. Wants one for himself. Said it’s got that “Stevie” tone he’s been looking for. 🙂 I’ve offered to help him build his own.
Think I’ll call this a success !”
